In Mayo, 750 acres of land is up for private treaty. The land, which comprises of grassland and peat land, is located in Muingmore, Geesala, circa 17 km from Belmullet, Co Mayo.

The 750 acres is divided up into 17 lots, with the option of buying lots in close proximity to one another. The holding, which was once used in the production of grass meal, is divided up into nice, large fields and is fenced and drained.

The land is described as peaty and marginal in nature and in need of management. However, according to the handler of the sale, Tim Quinn of Tim Quinn and Co Auctioneers in Belmullet, there is major potential for the development of renewable energy on the land. This is facilitated by the fact that the lands are designated “Tier 1” preferred locations for wind farms in the Mayo County Council renewable energy strategy.

Reasonable interest has been shown by local farmers for certain plots of land, but no formal offers have yet been placed.

The holdings are being guided at €600/acre with the entire expected to make between €450,000 and €500,000.
