It’s been a three to four years since I wrote about any sort of active dairy farm coming to the market.

During the build-up to the abolition of milk quotas in March 2015, there was not a whisper about the sale of a dairy farm as farmers strove to expand and upgrade their existing operations.

Already this year, at least three dairy farms have been brought to my attention and, interestingly, two of these are in located in Co Cork.

Just last week, auctioneer Killian Lynch, Macroom, launched an 80-acre non-residential operation at Teergay, Kilbarry, Macroom, Co Cork, to the market.

This is a walk-in ready-to-go unit that only requires a herd of cows.

It comes complete with an extensive range of farm buildings that include a brand new state-of-the-art milking parlour and slatted cubicle housing for 114 cows, as well as 50 acres of excellent-quality grazing ground and circa 30 acres of old woodland. For sale by private treaty, the property is keenly priced at €700,000.
