A circa 86-acre farm in Inchmore, Freshford, Co Kilkenny, will go for public auction next week. The land, which is all in one block, is laid out in four to five good-sized fields and is well maintained with a clean, fresh, natural water source for animals. The land is in permanent pasture with all boundaries and fencing in good order. For eight or nine years, the vendor grew maize in the front field (circa 22 acres), which is testament to the quality of the land. Since the vendor acquired the land in 2000, he has installed a modern cattle-handling unit and electric fencing on all boundaries. He also reseeded circa 46 acres less than four years ago.

The vendor reclaimed the lower-lying back part of the farm by opening drains and spreading lime. The land is now in excellent shape with 45 acres of silage harvested last week.

Selling agent, Joseph Coogan of Joseph Coogan Auctioneers, Castlecomer, said there has been a nice bit of interest in the farm so far with a number of parties coming out to walk the land.

“This is a good grass farm,” said Coogan. “It will be a good opportunity for the likes of a dairy farmer looking to expand.”

The farm is located around eight miles from Kilkenny city, 15 miles from Abbeyleix and 25 miles from Carlow town. It is due to be offered for sale by public auction on Friday 25 July at 3pm in Ballycomey House, Castlecomer, Co Kilkenny. There are no entitlements with the farm and no guide price has been set.
