In the survey, 86% of respondents said they backed Ireland's continued membership of the EU. However, when broken down by sector, 95% of farmers were supportive.

European Movement Ireland attributes this positive view to the end of milk quotas and the US lifting its ban on Irish beef, as well as the selection of Ireland’s Phil Hogan as EU Agriculture Commissioner.

When asked about a potential departure of the UK from the EU due to the upcoming 'Brexit' referendum, 23% of those polled said Ireland should leave the EU if the UK did. Some 18% of farmers agreed. According to a report by Open Europe, Ireland could incur a loss of 3.1% to Gross Domestic Product (GDP) by 2030, or roughly €6bn.

The poll also asked Irish people if they agreed with TTIP (Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership). Support for TTIP among the farming community was at 68% and 69% overall.
