Large crowds gathered around the ring side as the sun appeared to view a great exhibition of commercial cattle. The presence of no pedigree cattle was not felt as over 80 commercial cattle came through the ring, in what was a fantastic display of local cattle.

Judge Maeve Regan, Co Roscommon, was put to the test in finding her champions, with over 40 cattle in the haltered and a further 40 cattle in the un-haltered sections.

There was a mixture of classes throughout the day varying between haltered and un-haltered cattle, with many classes confined to north or south Leitrim exhibitors.

These confined un-haltered classes drew many local farmers, not directly involved with showing cattle, to Manorhamilton for the day, giving everyone the opportunity to showcase the best of their suckler herds.

Un-haltered classes included best suckler cow, best breeding heifer, Lim x heifer and bull calf classes and Belgian Blue x bull and heifer calf classes.

The haltered section saw a highly contested line up of 1st prize winners in the overall championship. Tapped forward as champion on the day were the Byrne brothers from Co Donegal with their Lim x cow, sired by FL22 (below). A second-time calver, she had an eight-week old heifer calf at foot, sired by Fiston.

Reserve champion went to Cian and Ciara McGloin, Co Leitrim, with their April born heifer calf out of a Lim x cow and sired by a Charolais Bull (below).

The last class of the day was Manhorhamilton’s young handlers' class. This saw Siobhan Brennan being called in for 1st place, closely followed by her younger sister Niamh Brennan, placed in second (below).
