The overall sale topper across all breeds came from Frank and Margaret McKiernan, Corlismore, Co Cavan with their 12 month old Aberdeen Angus bull Drumcrow Power Punch R603 selling for the day’s best price of €5,000. Standing second to the day’s champion in the pre-sale show, this quality young bull attracted a multitude of bids in the sales ring before being knocked down to Paul Matthews, Cahir, Co. Tipperary. The bull is sired by the UK-bred AI bull Netherton Americano M703.

The next best price in the Angus section came from Robert Dunne, Belturbet, Co. Cavan who sold Beechill Magic Mike ET for €3650. This bull was born in January 2015 and was sired by Netherton Mr. Brazilian E377. A 4th prize winner in the show prior to the sale, this bull had five star terminal and replacement ICBF index traits.

Frank and Margaret McKiernan, Corlismore, Co. Cavan sold Drumcrow Pronto P588 for €3,200. One of the oldest bulls catalogued in the sale, this bull was sired by Drumcrow Joker and was a fourth prize winner in the pre-sale show.

Two bulls traded for €3,100. The first, Loughlynn Master Blaster exhibited by Patrick Regan, Claremorris, Co. Mayo was born in January 2015 and sired by Cashelane Lord Jeremy F193. The second bull to sell at €3,100 was Pat and Finbarr Cahill’s Shankill Moorland R115. This bull was sired by the UK bred stock sire Eastfield Black Buddy K155.

The Champion Aberdeen Angus of the day under show judge Albert DeCogan, Castlemartyr, Co. Cork went to Gerard and Helen Reynolds with Bunlahy Minto Jimmy. This April 2015 born calf was also the Supreme Male Champion at the National Aberdeen Angus Calf Show last October and was sired by the noted AI bull Bunlahy John G. This bull failed to meet his reserve in the sales ring and remained unsold.

The Reserve Champion was awarded to Laheens Luke exhibited by Cathal Duignan, Carrick-On-Shannon, Co. Leitrim. This bull was born in November 2014 and was sired by the Canadian AI bull Nakkeg Nord 913 and sold for €3,000.

Rounding out the principal prices in the Aberdeen Angus section were Thomas Kelleghan, Mullingar, Co. Westmeath who sold Borrow Mighty P287 for €3,000, John Heneghan, Ballinlough, Co. Roscommon who sold Bauroe Luke for €3,000, Patrick Harrison, Athlone, Co. Westmeath who sold Brideswell Lee for €3,000 and John McSweeney, Ballinamore, Co. Leitrim who sold Rocklands Morton for €3000.

Overall, 39 Aberdeen Angus bulls sold to an average price of €2,475 with a clearance of 89%.

Angus Females

Bernard Kerins, Ballymote, Co. Sligo achieved the top two prices in the Aberdeen Angus female section, selling the Reserve Champion, Kerins Leonie for €4,050 and the Champion, Kerins Leannie for €3,400. Both heifers were sired by Aynho Rossiter Eric B125 and both were scanned in-calf, due to calve in October.

Patrick Harrison, Athlone, Co. Westmeath sold his 23 month old in-calf heifer, Brideswell Lola for €3,250. This heifer was sired by the successful stock bull Ballyshannon Eric.

Hereford

Benedict Mulrennan, Elphin, Co. Roscommon achieved the best price in the Hereford section, selling his bull Lisnaeanpoll 1 George for €3,050. This bull had earlier won the Reserve Champion prize in the pre-sale show and boasted a five stars terminal ICBF index.

The Hereford Champion, Steil Master 290, exhibited by Cathal & JJ McCormack, Tulsk, Co. Roscommon sold for €2,500. This January 2015 born bull was sired by the Australian AI bull Hollow Point Broker and was also five stars for terminal ICBF index.

Overall, the Hereford bulls achieved a record 100% clearance selling to an average price of €2,300.

Just one Hereford heifer traded on the day. Patsy Smith, Cootehill, Co. Cavan sold Borin Bella 3 for €1,750. This heifer was sired by Kye Rodge 553 and was born in September 2014.

Shorthorn

Just one Shorthorn sold on the day, the 1st prize winner, Mohill Isaac exhibited by Francis McGowan, Mohill, Co. Leitrim sold for €1,400. This bull was 12 months old and was sired by Alta Cedar Perfect Storm 11U.
