Ukraine’s largest farm business in talks over sale – Ukraine

The owners of Ukrland Farming, the largest farm business in Ukraine, are in talks with investors from China and the Middle East about potentially selling a stake in the company. Producing grain, sugar, beef and poultry off more than 650,000ha, Ukrland’s profits have been hit hard as the Ukrainian economy has slumped since 2015.

Largest wheat purchase in three years – Egypt

Egypt’s grain import authorities have purchased 420,000t of wheat – the largest purchase since January 2014. Suppliers of Romanian and Russian wheat filled the massive tender, as Egypt returns fully to the grain markets following rows earlier in the year over ergot contamination levels in wheat.

Cattle prices hit four week high – US

Cattle prices in the US hit monthly highs after new data from the US Department of Agriculture showed lower than expected numbers of cattle in feedlots. Currently, just over 1.9m head of cattle are in US feedlots, which was well below the expected 2.1m head.

Walmart steps up online presence in China – China

US retail giant Walmart is stepping up its e-commerce presence in China after it invested $50m in the Chinese online grocery and delivery firm New Dada. With 25m registered customers in 300 Chinese cities, Walmart continues to shift its strategy in China towards greater online sales.
