Ahare House, situated in Kilgorman, was sold in a private deal after it was withdrawn from auction. The house, along with 15 acres, had been offered for sale in its entire or in two separate lots.

According to selling agent Gary Quinn of DNG Property, Wexford, there was plenty of interest in the property in the lead up to the auction, but on the day bidders were few and far between.

First time round the property was offered in lots, with only one bidder for each lot. Lot one comprised the house and four acres, including three all-weather tennis courts. A single bid of €180,000 was made on this lot, well short of the €220,000 guide price.

The second lot extended to 11 acres, adjacent to the house, that have been granted planning permission for 15 mobile home units. Again, there was a single bidder for this lot who made an offer of €100,000.

Quinn then offered the property in its entire, but was forced to withdraw from auction when bidding ceased at €310,000 – short of the €330,000 guided for the entire.

Private negotiations ensued after auction and a deal for the entire property was struck for “a higher figure”, believed to be in the region of the guide price. The buyer is said to be a local businessman with plans to develop the property as a guesthouse and holiday home resort due to its seaside location.

Ahare House is a Georgian period home constructed in 1840, before it was extended in 1925. Today it comprises five reception rooms and six bedrooms, five of which are en suite.
