Derryman Jack Robinson defeated home favourite Ivan Scott to claim the All-Ireland Open shearing title this evening in An Grianan Estate, Burt, Donegal. While Scott led the field from start to finish, shearing 20 hoggets in an excellent time of 15 minutes and 45 seconds, about two minutes faster than Robinson, he lost points on the quality of shearing.

Scott has dominated Irish open titles in recent years but the young Derryman has developed into a very formidable competitor in recent years. The final was a hotly contested event with the two favourites joined by Robert Davidson, Larne, Co Antrim; Jimmy McCauley, Ballycastle, Co Antrim; Ian Montgomery, Ballymena, Co Antrim; and Mark McGeown, Dundalk, Co Louth.

Scott raised a cheer for Donegal fans earlier on the first day of the Lynch Brothers All-Ireland and International Sheep Shearing Championships when he claimed the Donegal confined title earlier in the day and will no doubt bounce back quickly for tomorrows premier events – the International Open Title and the Six Nations Championships, where he is joined on the Irish team by Tom Kennedy, Galway and Mark McGeown, Co Louth.

Along with an excellent competition list for Sunday, there is a range of attractions including commercial exhibits, arts and crafts, family entertainment and a cooking and butchery/lamb selection demonstration by ‘the no salt chef’ Brian McDermott, Shane McHugh, Teagasc and Darren Carty, Irish Farmers Journal.
