Irish animal nutrition company Alltech has acquired Masterfeeds, one of the leading feed manufacturers in Canada. Headquartered in the province of Ontario, Masterfeeds operates 18 feed manufacturing mills and three retail stores across a number of locations in Canada.

The company is almost 90 years old having been established in 1928 and employs more than 500 people today. Over the last 25 years, the Masterfeeds business has more than tripled in size, producing feed for the dairy, beef, pork and poultry sectors as well as a range of pet foods.

Masterfeeds is the 13th company to be acquired by Alltech since 2011 and will bring the group’s revenues to in excess of $2.1bn (€1.9bn).

Alongside its existing Canadian business EMF Nutrition, the acquisition of Masterfeeds and its infrastructure means that Alltech operates 25 manufacturing facilities, nine retail stores and seven distribution centres across Canada.

Founder and president of Alltech Dr Pearse Lyons said his company has long been working closely with Masterfeeds, making the acquisition a natural fit.

“Between Alltech’s primacy in science and Masterfeeds’ robust network of farm-focused team and dealers, we have a winning combination for moving Canadian agriculture forward to greater farm and ranch efficiency and profitability,” added Lyons.
