Applications are now open for farmers to apply for financial assistance for direct costs caused by the flooding in December 2015 and January 2016.
The 2016 Emergency Flood Damage Relief Measure aims to provide financial assistance to farmers in approved cases for the direct costs arising from instances of loss of livestock, damage to fixed agricultural structures and fittings, and necessary movement of livestock (excluding the cost of feed).
In all these categories, compensation is only payable in cases where the cost to the applicant has been caused by the flooding in December 2015 and January 2016.
The following details of losses incurred as a direct consequence of flooding must be provided by the applicant to avail of the financial assistance:
Category 1 – Loss of livestock
Applicants must provide details of the number and category of livestock lost on their holding as a direct consequence of flooding, and the date of official notification of losses to the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine.
Category 2 – Fixed agricultural structures and fittings
Applicants must provide details describing the damage to fixed agricultural structures and fittings on their holding as a direct consequence of flooding.
Category 3 – Movement of livestock
Applicants must provide details of the movement of livestock on their holding as a direct consequence of flooding.
Only losses not covered by an applicant’s insurance are eligible. All such losses must clearly and demonstrably have arisen as a direct consequence of the flooding in December 2015 and January 2016.
In the case of compensation for costs incurred in renting housing for livestock moved off-farm due to flooding, any such movement must have been initiated in advance of the opening date of this measure. The eligible rental period will extend to 28 February 2016.
No aid will be payable in respect of applications where the total claim is less than €250.
Applications must be submitted by midnight on Friday 12 February 2016. All applications will be subject to on-farm verification by the Department of Agriculture.
