This farm was home to a drystock enterprise for many years before being let out on a yearly basis for the past 15 years. It came to the market with a bungalow residence that hasn’t been lived in for a number of years and a range of farm buildings. Despite being offered in a range of lots, the property sold in its entirety for €730,000 or €6,800/acre.

On the day, auctioneer Robert Nixon, Kells, put up the first lot, comprising the farm buildings on 53 acres, which, reportedly, is the best part of the farm and is laid out in just one big field. After two rounds of bidding, this lot peaked at €340,000 and was parked at that.

The 52 acres across the road was then offered. Some of this land would benefit from attention and it was bid to €260,000, while the bungalow residence on two acres stopped at €80,000. This gave a combined total of €680,000.

With that, bidding for the entire opened at €700,000 and with the help of three different parties, the sale price proceeded to €730,000, at which stage Robert declared the farm on the market. With no further movement, the hammer quickly fell at €730,000 to an agent who was believed to be acting for a drystock farmer from Manorhamilton, Co Leitrim. One of the underbidders was a local, while the third person was unknown. This works out at €6,800/acre.
