With the kill up to 35,500 last week, and sterling moving from 83p to 85p equals €1 since the start of this week, there are more than enough cattle to meet factory demand at present.

Prices are being held in general at €3.70/kg on steers and €3.80/kg on heifers with another 5c/kg being secured but only in exceptional circumstances where all the spec buttons are pressed.

The cow trade is steady, with a wide gap between plants. P+3 grades are making from €2.90/kg to €3.05/kg, O grades from €3/kg to €3.15/kg, R grades from €3.10/kg to €3.25/kg.

Northern Ireland

In Northern Ireland, plants are quoting a U3- base of £3.46/kg to £3.48/kg (€4.27/kg to €4.30/kg). Sellers with numbers are reported to be getting more, well over £3.50/kg in cases.
