A little effort put in in advance can lead to a stress-free inspection. There are some items in particular to watch out for. Ensure that remedy label instructions in relation to species, quantity administered, withdrawal date, etc are strictly followed. Make sure every remedy intervention (dosing/antibiotics/vaccines/mastitis treatment/dry-cow treatment) is recorded as required by legislation.

The following needs to be recorded: the name of the product, quantity administered, date(s) of treatment, identity of animal/animals, person that administered, vet’s name and date of end of withdrawal date. Make sure animals are never sold within their remedy withdrawal period. Ensure the only medicines purchased are those with VPA/EU numbers and that all remedy purchase records are retained and/or recorded and can be made available for the auditor. Other areas for attention are the health and safety statement, farm signage and vermin control.
