This week marks one of the busiest weeks in the pedigree calendar all year. While most will know the International Limousin Congress has been taking centre stage since last Sunday, a number of other key events are also taking place across other breeds. Wednesday saw the Baileys cow competition take place at Virginia show, with €10,000 given out to exhibitors. This show is the one to win for Holstein breeders and draws large crowds each year, with this year no different. Full details of all the winners can be found online or in next week’s paper.
Iverk Show this Saturday also marks the pinnacle of the show season for many Angus breeders the length and breadth of the country. With a heavily sponsored prize fund of €24,000 to be handed out to the best Angus in the country, it marks one of the biggest prize funds not only in Ireland but in Europe.
Limerick show on Sunday stands to be one of the biggest in Munster, with a number of key classes. One which has drawn a lot of attention in recent years is the All-Ireland senior heifer class for Shorthorns. Drawing exhibitors from all corners of the country, it’s sure to be hotly contested again.
