The Inaugural Blackface Sheep Breeders Association Northern Ireland National Show will take place this Monday (31 August) in the Alexander Hall at the King’s Hall complex, Belfast.

Judging of 355 Blackface sheep will take place for both North (Perth) type as well as South (Lanark and Newton Stewart) type sheep.

Two Scottish breeders will be judging on the day, Archie MacKinnon from Amulree will judge the Perth sheep and Sandy Patterson from Crieff will judge the Lanark and Newton Stewart sections.

The Blackface Sheep Breeders Association will also be providing a lamb carvery dinner for everyone in attendance after the show.

Robert Loughery from Limavady will be showing 11 sheep across the six classes at Monday’s show. He runs 800 Lanark ewes and 200 replacement hoggets on his farm at Gortnarney with 250 of his best Lanark ewes kept pure and the rest crossed with the Bluefaced Leicester.

“It’s very good that the show is coming to our shores this time. There are a lot of Blackface breeders in Northern Ireland and there is sure to be a lot of support for the event,” he said.
