In the week that Ireland shipped its first consignment of live cattle to Turkey, Brazil shipped its first consignment of beef to the US since it was reapproved.

It was a consignment of 90cl forequarter valued, according to South American sources, at around $3,950/t (€3,540). Marfrig is understood to have dispatched its consignment last Sunday night, while JBS followed on Monday.

Brazil will export to the US using the same quota that Ireland uses. It is for 64,000t annually and, while it hasn’t been fully used in recent years, that is now expected to change with Brazil supplying. Ireland supplied 1,540t to the US this year between January and July, according to the CSO.
