Suckler cattle are a flying trade in Kilrea Mart, with strong prices also on offer for sheep and dairy cows.

At Wednesday’s suckler sale, fat cows sold to £1,150 with good-quality beef-bred animals making 165p to 190p/kg and feeding cows making upwards of 150p/kg.

Steers sold to £1,470 for a 720kg Charolais animal. Forward cattle sold from £1,205 to £1,370, with mid-weight steers selling from £895 to £1,085.

Heifers sold to £1,420 for a 710kg Charolais, with a limited entry of forward heifers making £1,110 to £1,210. Mid-weight stores sold from £875 to £1,055.

Hoggets sold to £124 for a pen of 25kg animals, with several lots weighing 25kg to 26.5kg selling above the £120 mark. Fat ewes sold to £105.

Freshly calved dairy cows sold to £1,720 for heifers, with second-calving cows making £1,200. Cows in their third lactation made £1,500.
