The findings of the Comptroller and Auditor General’s report on The Strategic Planning for Flood Risk Management will come as little surprise to those who have been repeatedly affected.

The report highlights total failure on the behalf of a range of Government bodies to take the decisive action necessary to deal with an issue that has devastated so many homes and businesses across rural Ireland.

The findings of the report reinforce the IFA position that a single body is needed to deal with flood management and river maintenance in Ireland. The lesson is clear: unless a specific body has total responsibility and is accountable, then no one is accountable.
