Career workshop at ASA conference

Those of you who hold agricultural science degrees will be very familiar with the Agricultural Science Association (ASA) and its annual conference. This year the event is entitled Building Agri – Promoting Growth in a Climate of Change and takes place at the Lyrath Hotel in Kilkenny on 10-11 September.

However, what’s particularly interesting about this conference, is that from lunchtime on Thursday a Building Your Career workshop will be held, which will specifically target ag science graduates who are out of college less than five years.

The ASA has invited Jane Downes, one of Ireland’s best-known career coaches and author of the Career Book – Help for the Restless Realist, to deliver this workshop. Jane owns Clearview Coaching Group, a career coaching and training business, which she established in 2004 following an extensive career working in the area of recruitment and HR consulting.

The theme of the talk is managing your career. Jane will examine the practical process of managing your personal effectiveness and the opportunities for career development within the workplace.

There will also be a panel discussion involving ASA members sharing their expertise on how to succeed within the agri-food sector. A range of topics will be discussed, including building an effective network, building your skillset and the importance of a positive mind.

Everything learned that day can then be put to the test at the banquet on Thursday night, which is one of biggest networking opportunities on the agri-calendar.

At the banquet, those who participated in the workshop will be guided by experienced ASA members on how to work the room and networking effectively.

The workshop and banquet cost €65. This covers a five-course meal, training and coaching targeted specifically to your needs, and networking in a setting that removes the intimidation factor. What’s not to love? Book online at www.asaireland.ie/events/building-your-career-workshop/ CL
