Any cows with a bit of size and flesh made good money at the cull cow sale in Listowel on Thursday. There was plenty of interest from around the ring, with little delay between opening bids and the hammer falling.

The top price during the Irish Farmers Journal’s visit was for a fat black-and-white cull cow weighing 800kg and she made €1,150 (€1.43/kg). Any cows over 550kg were making in excess of €800.

Lighter cows weighing less than 500kg made between €500 and €600.
