Michael Fahey from Thurles, Co Tipperary, has placed the 1954 Ferguson TE20 tractor with Paul Cooke Auctions of Naas in the hope that it will attract bids that not only match its market value but will also reflect the desire of others to help in alleviating the suffering of those caught up in the disaster.
Fahey is a collector of old Fordsons. He acquired the tractor several years ago for a friend who passed away before he was able to take delivery of the little grey Fergie. It has since been used only for road runs to keep it in working order. At 62 years of age, it is still in excellent working condition.
The tractor will go under the hammer on Thursday 17 December and whatever sum it attracts will be donated to the Irish Red Cross for them to use in supporting the victims of the floods that wreaked havoc along the southern and western coasts earlier this month. A spokesman for the organisation pointed to the urgent need for relief supplies of food and water as well as supporting families who have had their houses damaged and belongings ruined by the storm.
