After securing access to the US beef market, the next international market on the agenda for Ireland is China.

Speaking at the IFA AGM this week, Agriculture Minister Simon Coveney confirmed that a trade mission to China will take place later this year with the hope of opening the beef market shortly after that.

These plans were echoed by An Taoiseach Enda Kenny at the IFA’s AGM dinner on Tuesday night where he expressed hope of opening the Chinese market soon.

Minister Coveney also confirmed that the next beef roundtable meeting will take place on 4 February, where bull beef will be top of the agenda.
