Continuing their success from Balmoral show last month, it was JCB commercials who took top honours on the first day of the Royal Highland Show in Scotland.

Having secured commercial champion and reserve interbreed at Balmoral, J-lo a December 2014 Limousin cross heifer continued her winning ways to take top spot in the commercial ring again today. Standing reserve to J-Lo was again a Northern Ireland bred heifer. Jack Smyth, Tyrone secured the title with his 10 month old Empire sired heifer Mini Mojo.

Belgian Blue

Balmoral interbreed champion Springhill Golden Girl was again on form when she claimed top spot in the Belgian Blue ring. Exhibited by Sam Martin, Newtownards, Co. Down this homebred five year old Gitan Du P’tit daughter impressed judge Allan Wilkinson with her overall ring presence. In reserve was the reserve female champion Graymar Halle ET. Sired by D’Ochain and out of a homebred dam, Halle was brought out by Mr J K Manson.

Limousin

With 130 entries it was Limousin who saw the most stern competition, but in the end it was Whinfellpark who came up trumps. Five year old Whinfellpark, Glittered exhibited by A W Jenkinson won the senior female class before securing female championship and eventually overall. Sired by Wilodge Cerberus she was shown with her young calf at foot.

Angus

The Angus champion came in the form of three year old Retties Lady Ruth N228 from Donald Rankin. Sired by Rawburn Elysium, Lady Ruth is no stranger to success having won numerous calf championships as well as being shown successfully as a yearling. Reserve honours went to the Intermediate bull Fenland Myprize P001. Recently purchased by the Gordon Brooke estate, two year old Myprize is sired by the £42,000 Rawburn Black Hawk.

Gallaway

In the Gallaway ring, five year old Blackcraig Sid was crowned overall champion. Although shown as a calf this was his first day out as a senior animal for breeders Messrs J Finlay. Sire behind this one was homebred Blackcraig Nimrod. Reserve honours went to the stylish two year old heifer Troloss Jackie from Troloss farms.

Onto the belted Gallaways and it was again a two year old heifer coming out on top. Broadmeadows May the 30th from Mrs A. F Bell was the pick, with Clifton Hercules in her sire stack.
