In a clever display at the FTMTA Farm Machinery Show, New Holland has placed its T4 105 in a 1.98m wide and 3.5m deep stand.

The tractor is 2.52m in height so it is an option for many old lean-to type sheds. The tractor is powered by the FPT engine with a Tier 4i emission rating. The model on display is rated at 105hp. The T4 range goes from 95hp to 117hp in the compact dimensions. Hydraulic output from the pump is 62l/min. This model features dual-power transmission, giving 24 x 24 gear selection in forward and reverse. The tractor has electro power shuttle, making it attractive for loader work.

New Holland can offer its own loader or any other make can be retrofitted. New Holland’s Irish sales managers Brian McGee and Liam Hayde said there will be a show special finance offer on New Holland tractors. The tractor has a retail price of €66,000.

D&S Machinery will also have its 90hp Solis tractor, built in India, on show. According to Patrick Ryan from D&S, this is a seriously good value tractor for farmers who like manual controls and a simple-to-use tractor. It is quite a smart-looking tractor from the outside. Its bonnet is a one-piece unit made from pressed steel. This is supported by gas struts and hinged at the rear. The bonnet opens by key and is fully lockable. It lifts clear of the engine bay to expose both the engine and its cooling package for maintenance or servicing.

The cab is produced by Turkish company Hisarlar, which also supplies cabs to CNH. It has wide doors and curved corner-section windows directly behind. Air-conditioning comes as standard.

The engine is produced in-house by Solis, but bears a striking resemblance to those used in Zetor’s UR1 series. And, in fact, it is derived from Zetor’s engine design, with individual cylinder heads and rocker covers.

From the engine back, the Solis is all-Indian built Carraro, with Carraro transmission, lift and rear axles. This is an all-mechanical unit providing 12 speeds in forward and 12 speeds in reverse. Three sticks provide three ranges and four speeds on the driver’s right while a forward-reverse shuttle lever is to the driver’s left. A dry dual-clutch provides clutching for transmission and PTO function. PTO speeds on offer are 540rpm and Eco-540rpm, useful spec on a tractor of this size. A lever beside the handbrake provides PTO clutch function.

Another model to look out for in the low-horsepower market is the Kioti tractor on Paddy Callan’s stand.
