The farmer, Florence Geaney, from Ballinabortagh, Co Cork, under-declared CGT, a tax on gains arising on the disposal of assets, to the amount of €190,014, with interest of €108,349. Revenue applied a penalty of €57,004 on the farmer, resulting in a total fine of €355,367.
Michael Brennan, a farmer from Castlecomer, Co Kilkenny, was fined €159,297 for under-declaring VAT and PAYE/PRSI.
The Revenue list also shows that 15 farmers were penalised a total of €29,250 for failing to lodge income tax returns.
Four farmers were penalised for misuse of marked mineral oil. This means the farmers used green diesel in a vehicle which is intended for the use of white diesel.
A farmer from Foxford, Co Mayo, was fined €9,000 for two charges under this offence, while a farmer from Co Kerry, a farmer from Co Dublin and a farmer from Co Roscommon were fined €2,500 each for one charge under the offence.
Further to this, a farmer from Co Cork was charged €40,000 under 16 charges of failure to lodge VAT returns and a farmer and builder from Co Cork was fined €5,000 for failing to lodge P35 returns.
Two farmers were given 18 months fully suspended prison sentences, one for failing to maintain books and records and the other for delivering incorrect VAT returns.
The Revenue’s latest list of defaulters contains details of published settlements from 1 January 2016 to 31 March 2016.
