At the launch of the 17th FBD Young Farmer of the Year competition are Macra National President, Kieran O'Dowd; FBD Company Secretary, Conor Gouldson; current FBD Young Farmer of the Year, Sean O'Donnell; and IFA President, Eddie Downey. The competition is open for entries till the 29th May. Application forms are available from www.macra.ie or by calling 01 426 8900. Prizes will be awarded to all farm sectors as well as the top title of FBD Young Farmer of the Year.

The semi-finals of the FBD Young Farmer of the Year competition are under way. The county finalists for each enterprise are taking part in the semi-finals.
Six finalists will be chosen to go through to the national final in Mayo on 1 September. The total prize fund for this year’s competition is €10,000. Prizes will be awarded to one overall FBD Young Farmer of the Year. There will be enterprise prizes for dairy, beef, sheep, pigs, poultry, tillage and other categories. This week, we introduce you to the tillage and other category county finalists.
