We are expecting a full house again this time.”

Bernie Heaney, who recently released her acclaimed country album, is making the journey down to Cork for this special night.

Also lending their support are several artists from the southern region, including Sheila Fitzgerald, Peter Lane, Pat Daly, Barry O’Halloran, Joe Guerin and Liam Cantillon. It gets underway at 8.30pm and the compere is Ailish O’Sullivan. All support will be most welcome.

Limerick’s mid-week special

The Greenhills Hotel in Limerick will host a mid-week special on Thursday, 18 September, when Louise Morrissey will join the Michael Collins Band as guest artist on the night. Louise will make this rare appearance on the dancing circuit as part of Michael’s 21st anniversary celebrations.

Michael Collins and his four-piece band are in major demand around the country, but especially in the Munster province where they have been entertaining dancers for over two decades.

Michael also won the Glór Tire contest on TG4 earlier this year.

Mossie’s Country Roadshow will get the dancing underway at 9pm.

Showband nostalgia

Showband aficionados can take a trip down memory lane next Wednesday, 17 September, at a special dance show in the Celbridge Manor Hotel in Co Kildare.

Brendan Bowyer, one of the great names from the showband era, is among the headline acts. The Waterford man fronted the famous Royal Showband and their song The Hucklebuck is regarded as the definitive song of that era. Art O’Hagan, the last surviving member of the legendary Clipper Carlton – acknowledged by most people as the band that started the showband era – will be a special guest at the big night in the Celbridge Manor. A very warm welcome awaits the man from Strabane.

Other guests on the night include Gene Stuart, Gloria, Dave Lawlor and Paddy Hanrahan. The Brose Walsh Band from Mayo will provide the music. Event organiser Gerry Carroll says they are thrilled with the response to the special promotion: “This is a rare occasion and we are delighted that Art is coming down from Tyrone for the night. Brendan Bowyer is a true legend so patrons are in for a memorable night with all the guests and the Brose Walsh Band.”
