Power to friends

Martin Power has long been busy embellishing his love for country and rock music. Blending the best of both styles sees Martin bring his own distinctive feel to his material and the Kilkenny man has just released a new single, Who Says You Can’t Go Home.

This is a Bon Jovi composition to which Martin has added shades of country. It was produced by David Arkins at his studio in Athboy. It features a big catchy pop chorus, which allows Martin to showcase his range and style.

Power grew up listening to such stars as Elvis Presley, Buddy Holly, Bon Jovi and Meat Loaf. In more recent times, he has incorporated the influences of country singers like Brad Paisley and Keith Urban. For more information on Martin and his music, visit martinpowermusic.com.

Marie Rua’s World

Marie Rua Gallagher is known throughout Donegal and far beyond. The lady from Bunbeg, who picked potatoes as a teenager in Scotland and became synonymous with promoting Daniel O’Donnell at every opportunity as she burst onto the scene in the 1980s, is now being serenaded in song.

Seamus McGee has just launched his new single, Maire Rua’s World, a song composed by Danny O’Donnell (not the Kincasslagh man) and it tells the story of the famous Maire Rua and how her footsteps took her to Scotland and back home to Donegal.

Maire Rua has been a close friend of the O’Donnell family from Kincasslagh for many years, always there to lend support to Daniel and Margo, and she was also a close friend of their mother, Julia. News that a song had been written about her came as a big surprise, but Maire Rua is delighted that it is going down so well with radio audiences all over the country. Seamus McGee is also pleased to have recorded a song about one of Donegal’s special characters.
