Dairy farmers to protest at Commission's Belfast office
A protest is being organised by dairy farmers at the European Commission’s office in Belfast on Thursday to highlight the issues facing the dairy industry.

A demonstration is being organised by Fair Price Farming NI to coincide with the submission of a letter by the group to the Commission’s Belfast office addressed to EU Agriculture Commissioner Phil Hogan.
The protest is taking place ahead of the extraordinary meeting of the European Agricultural Council in Brussels on Monday (7 September).
Thursday’s protest at the Commission’s office will take place a day ahead of a separate demonstration being organised by the Ulster Farmers Union at Stormont.

The group has invited all dairy farmers to attend the demonstration at 12 noon to inform decision makers in Europe about the problems in the sector.
A spokesperson for the group said: “This is our opportunity, the dairy farmers of Northern Ireland, to have a voice in this time of crisis and to make our case for special consideration from the EU Agricultural Commissioner.”
In recent weeks, Fair Price Farming NI has staged demonstrations at supermarkets and retailer distribution depots across Northern Ireland. Several members of the group also addressed the NI Assembly’s agriculture committee at an emergency meeting during summer recess on 30 July.
