It is better to spray now, when weeds are at the vegetative growth stage, rather than waiting until June, when they are gone past it and pushing out seed heads. Spot spraying is suitable for low infestations or small areas.

Whether you are spraying with a knapsack or a boom sprayer, you are considered a professional user and must be registered as such with the Department of Agriculture. You must have completed a training course to do so.

The other big change is that all sprayers with boom widths wider than 3m must be tested and approved every five years. All use of chemicals must be recorded to show the product; its PCS number; where it was applied and at what rate; the area of the ground sprayed; and the amount of water used. These are essential requirements under cross-compliance.
