Next Tuesday would appear to be the day Irish MEP Mairead McGuinness will find out if she will be the next president of the European Parliament.

McGuinness, who is currently the vice-president of the parliament, is very much in the running to replace the outgoing incumbent Martin Schulz.

The European People’s Party (EPP), which is McGuinness’ party in Europe, will vote on who it wants to put forward in the race.

I’m told she’s confident, but still has a lot of campaigning to do between now and then. It would be a great result for Ireland if she was to get it.
