The emergency measure was announced by the Government following a cabinet meeting on the flooding crisis held in early January. The scheme provides financial assistance to farmers for loss of livestock, damage to fixed agricultural structures and fittings, and necessary movement of livestock during flooding.

Applications opened on 29 January and the deadline for applications is this coming Friday, 12 February.

Compensation is payable to the farmer under a number of categories but only in cases where the cost to the applicant has been caused by the flooding in December 2015 and January 2016.
