Grass growth 55kg/DM/ha/day is still suffering due to the dry spell.

An average grass growth of 55 kg DM/ha/day was recorded for the past week - growth is still suffering due to the prolonged dry spell. A small amount of rain has fallen, but this is having little effect on improving growth. A total of 7 ha of ground that was brought back into the grazing rotation after first cut silage was grazed in the past week. Only for these extra paddocks, the paddocks which were closed up for second cut silage would have to be grazed. With rain forecast over the weekend, grass growth should improve - hopefully.
All cattle were weighed this week. The yearling steers have an average weight of 515kg and have gained 1.3kg/day since turnout. The yearling heifers have an average weight of 438kg and have gained 1kg/day since turnout. Calves were also weighed; male calves are averaging 208kg with a daily gain of 1.25kg since birth, while the heifer calves are 180kg, having an average daily gain of 1.1kg. The remaining six under 16-month bulls are to be killed tomorrow.
The stock bulls will be removed from the cows on Monday after a 12-week breeding season.
