DEAR SIR: Your editorial will have touched the hearts of thousands of people involved in Irish agriculture, from farmers and the merchant trade to local marts and shops.
The weather this year has created untold stress on numerous farmers given the late spring and continued downpours from June onwards, particularly in the west. We must also not forget the smaller merchants who have suffered in silence for years given the volatility in Irish farming. It is tough working in isolation each day, particularly for those who are single, elderly people and widowers, is not an easy task. Many people don’t know who to turn to.
No one wants to be judged, particularly Irish men. How can we reduce the stigma attached to mental health, particularly in men?
