One year down the road and Eamonn Jackson is bringing it all back home for his first anniversary celebration dance in the Kilmore Country Club in Cavan town on 23 January.

It is a night the man from Redhills is looking forward to. Country music was Eamonn’s big love from a young age. Early influences on the Irish scene were Big Tom, Larry Cunningham and Philomena Begley. His parents’ special favourites included Gene Stuart and Brendan Bowyer, so young Eamonn grew up surrounded by those familiar voices.

George Jones and other legends of American country also found favour. In more recent years, Garth Brooks and Hal Ketchum have joined the ranks of his favourite US stars.

For some years, Eamonn, otherwise known as The Midnight Cowboy, presented his one-man show around Cavan and neighbouring counties. It was a good stomping ground and helped him to acquire stage craft that is now serving him well on the wider circuit.

But with a surge in the popularity of country music, the urge to give the big band scene a real go grew stronger with each passing week. Last year, he took the plunge and Eamonn and his band have been busy consolidating a loyal fan base around the country since then.

“This has been on my mind for some time. I have always loved the idea of fronting a band and now it has come to pass.

“We are an energetic band and I believe there is a lot of vitality to our show. We get a great response from dancers wherever we play and they love the programme we do, which is especially geared for this market,” says Eamonn.

The Girl I Love Now Lives In Birmingham, a song written by Henry McMahon, secured some great airplay for Eamonn and helped introduce his name to a much wider audience.

An enduring favourite, Gypsy Woman, the Don Williams classic, has helped pave the way in the popularity stakes for Eamonn and the song, released as a radio single, has been very good to him.

“I have always loved that song and wanted to record it. We decided to give it an up-tempo style and it goes down a treat with radio listeners and dancers. Another new single is on the way and will be released in the coming weeks. I am confident this will do well for us too.”

Along with the regular dance shows, Eamonn complements these with guest spots at concerts. Some accolades are already coming his way as well. The Cavan man is booked for a number of major festivals in 2016. But, right now, the big focus is on the first anniversary celebrations in Hotel Kilmore on Saturday, 23 January. It should be a truly memorable night on home turf for Eamonn.
