Factory prices have eased with steers generally on €4.05/kg and heifers €4.15/kg. The kill was close to 33,000 head. Export markets remain strong.

Factories with customers for cow beef paid €3.40/kg on P grades and €3.50/kg on O. For numbers of really good cows, price can be pushed up another 5c/kg or 10c/kg.

IFA livestock chair Angus Woods said supplies of in-spec cattle are not meeting factory demand.

“Factory agents are therefore reluctant to leave cattle behind and farmers should bargain strongly on price.”
