A farmer in Norfolk has been cheated out of £15,000 by a now sacked policeman.

According to reports, the farmer allowed the policeman onto his land with his metal detector having made an agreement to evenly split the value of anything valuable that was found.

However, when PC David Cockle found valuable gold coins worth thousands of pounds he reneged on the deal and kept proceeds of the sale for himself.

Last month the policeman was found guilty of theft and this week was dismissed with without notice from his job following a misconduct hearing.

A spokesperson for Norfolk Police said: “The highest level of personal and professional behaviour should be demonstrated by those serving with us to ensure the public have confidence in their police force.

Having been found guilty of theft last month, the behaviour of the officer was found to fall below the high standards expected.”
