According to the UK Agriculture and Horticulture Development Board (AHDB), the share farmers received increased marginally in February. This was due to retail prices remaining broadly stable and farmgate prices increasing slightly.

This was a small rise of 1% on the previous month at 47%.

However, when compared with last year, this shows a 5% drop in the price being paid to farmers.

Meanwhile, farmgate lamb prices were up slightly for the first two months of this year.

In the three months leading up to the end of January lamb sales were down 9% on the previous year.

According to the latest data from Kantar Worldpanel, this was due to fewer people buying lamb and those who did purchasing less.

The price of lamb was up 2% and overall spend on lamb fell by 7%. The decline was across most cuts.
