Payments of €800,000 issued last week in balancing payments to farmers in the Green Low-carbon Agri-Environment Scheme (GLAS).

To date, some 17,000 farmers have now received a balancing payment under the scheme.

The Department of Agriculture is encouraging farmers to submit their nutrient management plans (NMPs) in order to receive their balancing payment.

The 2016 balancing payment to GLAS 1 and GLAS 2 participants can only be made when the NMP has been submitted.

To date, almost 20,000 plans have been submitted to the Department.

The balancing payment represents the final 15% of the 2016 payment and completes the total payment for GLAS actions undertaken last year under GLAS 1 and 2.
