The fire is understood to have started at around midnight on Friday night in one of the dryers at the plant but was brought under control by units of Ballaghaderreen and Boyle fire services.

A spokesman for Aurvio told the Irish Farmers Journal that no significant damage has been done to the dryer and that production will not be hit by the fire. The dryer was shut down immediately and the fire was then brought under control.

The spokesman added that the dryer is expected to be back up and running in the coming days. He also commended the work of staff on site as well as the fire services.
