The blaze occurred at OCI Nitrogen’s Chemelot in the Netherlands site. While both ammonia plants have restarted, the CAN and UAN production units have yet to come back online.

The CAN plant is expected to restart later this quarter. The company’s CAN plant has the capacity to produce 1.4m tonnes/year of fertiliser, similar to the total size of the Irish fertiliser market. The UAN unit has a capacity of 250,000 tonnes/year. With such a large plant taken out of production, this is likely to create supply shortage and will not help prices of CAN in Europe.
