Horse Racing Ireland (HRI) has been confirmed as an exhibitor at the Irish Farmers Journal and open eir Agri Careers Fair which takes place on 3 March in the RDS and they will be promoting their 2016 student internship programme on the day. You can register for free to attend the event.

Now in its third year, the programme offers five internships altogether for the summer of 2016. The internships will begin at the end of May and will run for 10-12 weeks. One of the internships will be in the HRI head office in Newbridge, Co Kildare, while the other four will be in each of the HRI racecourses: Fairyhouse, Navan, Leopardstown and Tipperary.

The programme is open to students in any year of any course, though of course students with an interest in horse racing and the promotion of racing will be at an advantage.

Carol Nolan, group human resournce manager at HRI, says that “as a business, we really look forward to seeing the students arrive every year who contribute greatly to our businesses during their time with us.”

All interns will be doing social media and website maintenance. Students at the four HRI tracks will be required to assist in many areas of racecourse operations such as marketing, ticket sales, and raceday operations while the intern based in head office will be placed in the marketing department and will also assist with media monitoring and racecourse events.

The internship programme also includes group outings. In 2015, the students visited Kildangan Stud, The National Stud and trainer Eddie Lynam’s stables, while they also went twilight racing in Naas and Leopardstown.

The deadline for applications is 7 March, following which suitable candidates will be called for interview. Successful candidates will receive a weekly payment.
