Agriculture Minister Simon Coveney launched the terms and conditions of TAMS on Thursday afternoon in Co Kilkenny. Young farmers (under 40, with a green cert and having commenced farming in the past five years) are the first to gain access to TAMS II.

A total of €120m has been set aside for young farmers from every sector under TAMS II between 2015 and 2020. Under the scheme, young farmers can get up to 60% grant aid on improvement works on the farm.

Minister Coveney described TAMS II as one of the most important schemes for generation as it will help increase farm transfers to younger farmers.

Applications officially open later this month with the closing date for applications likely to be at the end of August.

Officials from the Department of Agriculture outlined to the Irish Farmers Journal the five steps that are required to be eligibile under TAMS II.

1. Gain access to the online supplication system through www.agriculture.gov.ie.

2. A farmer decides on what investments they require on their farm. It is important to note that some investment may require planning permission or the farm to be nitrates compliant.

3. Applications can be submitted through the online upload system on the Department of Agriculture website from 28 May.

4. Assuming there are no problems with the applications, farmers will then seek approval.

5. Infrastructure and investment can then be carried out on farms.
