Teagle, the British farm machinery company, will be launching a range of flail mulchers at this year’s Ploughing championships. The mulchers are made by the Italian company Berti and have been distributed by Teagle for more than 10 years.

Seeing a demand in Ireland, in particular for managing rushes, Teagle will introduce its TSB range of mulchers at the Ploughing. These have cutting widths from 1.6m to 3m in rigid format and 3.2m to 6m in hydraulic folding format.

Teagle claims that the TSB range has been designed specifically for this challenging environment. They have two key features that make them stand out from standard models.

Firstly, the machine is fitted with long T-type hammers attached to a large diameter rotor. Teagle claims that the massive rotor diameter and long flails of the TSB range generate a market-leading top speed of 70m/s to effectively lift vegetation and ensure thorough mulching and a fine cut finish.

It also claims that the long flails offer effective break-back protection against stone damage, a common problem in areas growing reeds and gorse.

The second feature is the high body design, which Teagle claims is capable of very high discharge rates, and consequently high forward speeds.

Teagle claims that the flail mulcher is equally at home mulching grass, reeds, rushes, bracken, maize, brassicas, vegetables, set-aside or gorse up to 6cm diameter.

Under the twin-skin hood, there is a single row of bolted counter blades to improve mulching performance.

The rear of the hood can be adjusted to deflect material downwards, as well as varying mulching intensity, with hydraulic control available as an option.

The TSB range is fitted as standard with a Walterscheid PTO shaft, category 2 hydraulic side-shift to improve access at field margins, and is fitted with a 1,000rpm gearbox (with 540rpm as a factory fit option).

Teagle offers the standard build with skids and a large diameter roller to reduce the likelihood of scalping on bumpy ground, although a wheel option is available. Fins can also be specified to spread mulched materials.

Power requirement for the most popular 2.5m TSB/S model is 80hp to 140hp.

Teagle Telehawk

Teagle recently introduced a new Telehawk straw bale spreading machine that is designed for use with telehandlers.

The machine is a self-loading unit and can handle round and square bales.

The Telehawk weighs 1,270kg empty, so it is designed for telehandlers that have a 2.6t or greater lift capacity. It requires 60litres/min hydraulic oil flow for effective operation.

It uses a rotating 280° swivel chute, which is designed to deliver straw to either side or in front of the machine. Teagle claims that it can spread straw up to 13.5m from the machine into the far corners of most livestock sheds.

Teagle claims that the new machine has labour-saving benefits, in that one person can quickly and easily bed down livestock. As there is no need for a tractor, loading is easy.

Teagle is claiming that using the new machine can save up to 30% on straw use.

The new Telehawk can be fitted with brackets for Caterpillar, Claas Scorpion, JCB (Q fit and pin/cone), John Deere, Kramer, Manitou, Matbro, Merlo P26/27/30 and New Holland telehandlers. Other bracket sizes can be made to order.

Keltec to launch new mower at Ploughing

Keltec Engineering, based at Kilmallock, Co Limerick, will launch its own three-point linkage mounted mower at this year’s National Ploughing Championships on stand 213, row 17.

With a working width of 3.2m (10ft), the new mower will be available in three versions, plain disc, disc with conditioner and disc with conditioner plus Keltec’s own innovative auger-type grouper, which it launched earlier this year at the FTMTA Grass and Muck event.

The mower is a top pivot design, which facilitates a more even bed pressure and better contouring across the width of the machine.

The bed is supported by a hydraulic ram with two accumulators providing a cushioning effect and allowing it to contour uneven ground. Bed pressure is adjustable to suit different ground conditions.

Keltec has designed the mower itself and has incorporated well-proven components in the machine’s drive-line. Bondioli and Pavesi gearboxes and drive shafts are used to transmit drive to a Galfre disc mowing bed.

In transport, the mower is hydraulically folded vertically over-centre to 110°. Pricing of the 3.2m mower with levelling bar fitted, conditioner and grouper is expected to be in the region of €20,000 plus VAT.
