The Irish Charolais Cattle Society held its first sale of 2018 in Tullamore Mart on Saturday 17 February. Demand was good with a packed ringside eager to secure bulls for the upcoming breeding season.

Average price was up €100 on last year’s sale at €3,750 with a 70% clearance. Matt Ryan, Co Tipperary, took the championship with his September 2016-born Kilvilcorris Mark. This bull was sired by the popular Goldstar Echo and his dam was by CF52 and had a five-star terminal index. He was knocked down at €9,000 and went to a new owner in Co Laois.

Reserve

The reserve champion came from the herd of Thomas McLaughlin, Donegal. His October 2016 born Islandview Mr T was sired by Tombapik and went back to a Cottage Devon dam. Mr T had a 5 star terminal index alongside a 5 star replacement index. He was knocked down at €6,400 to a Co. Cavan purchaser.
