As farmers faced with filling slurry tanks hope for drier weather when the closed period ends from next week, the forecast is going in the opposite way.

A status orange fog warning is in place for Thursday afternoon and evening, until 2am on Friday. This covers the entire country, with very poor visibility and denser patches into the evening. There may also be frost with night-time temperatures of -1°C to 3°C.

Then a status yellow rainfall warning applies from 3pm on Friday until 12pm on Saturday for counties Galway, Mayo, Clare, Cork and Kerry. Falls of 30mm to 50mm are expected during the period.

Further rain is expected in all areas on Saturday, with heavier downpours moving east during the day.

Sunday is forecast to be mostly dry but rain will return at night.
