Grain markets have been steadier over the last two days, but uncertainty still remains overall. European grain futures were mixed during Thursday’s trade in Paris, while in Chicago prices showed little movement.

Europe

On the Euronext exchange (MATIF) in Paris, prices for May 2016 delivered wheat eased back €1/t to finish Thursday’s session just over €160/t, while May 2017 delivered wheat was flat at €179/t.

European maize (corn) futures from Paris lifted somewhat, with June 2016 maize edging above €157/t, while prices for June 2017 delivered maize gained over €1/t to settle at €171/t.

Rapeseed futures are interesting. Market prices for 2016 and 2017 rapeseed crops have now converged and there is no differential between prices for either year’s crop. May 2016 delivered rapeseed weakened further on Thursday by €1/t to finish below €354/t, while May 2017 rapeseed gained €2/t to settle at €353/t.

Chicago

On the Chicago exchange (CBOT), cereal futures were very static during Thursday’s trade.

SRW wheat for May 2016 delivery eased back marginally to $170/t (€151/t), while May 2017 delivered SRW wheat was flat at $188/t (€167/t).

US maize (corn) prices were also unmoved, with May 2016 delivered maize sitting at $144/t (€128/t), while maize for May 2017 delivery remained at $157/t (€139/t).
