Farm machinery industry careers

The FTMTA was pleased to exhibit at the recent Agri Careers event and Conor McGuinness, manning the association’s stand, was extremely busy during the day as he fielded numerous queries from enthusiastic young people interested in making a career in the farm machinery industry.

A number of FTMTA member firms, such as AGCO/Massey Ferguson, Dairymaster and McHale, also participated with stands of their own, as did affiliate member IT Tralee.

All reported strong interest from a high calibre of individuals.

The association believes it is important that school leavers and students understand the farm machinery industry is a progressive, innovative sector offering a variety of challenging and rewarding career paths for high-quality recruits and it was to deliver this message that the FTMTA exhibited at Agri Careers.

There are numerous careers available across the technical, sales and parts aspects of the business and the FTMTA wishes to encourage students to think about pursuing such a career.

The FTMTA stand featured a number of vacant positions in member firms across the country and there was considerable interest from students sitting the Leaving Certificate this year in relation to the bachelor of science (agricultural mechanisation) degree in IT Tralee.

This course has been tailored to meet the requirements of the modern farm machinery industry for highly skilled service technicians who can deal with the rapidly evolving technical challenges of today’s agricultural mechanisation technology.

The course is a mix of college-based learning and work placement over three years, with the student required to carry out a substantial body of online learning when on work placement, and is attracting a lot of attention from potential students.
