Monday will start off mostly dry with sunny spells in the east and south, but scattered showers in the north and west will extend to all areas later, according to Met Éireann. Some showers will be heavy and possibly thundery, especially in the east in the late afternoon. Highest temperatures will range from 15°C to 18°C, with light to moderate north to northwest breezes.

Moving into tonight, scattered showers in the north and northwest will continue, but elsewhere it will become mostly dry with clear spells. Lowest temperatures will range from 6°C to 10°C in light to moderate northerly winds.

Rest of the week

Tuesday morning will be cool and bright with sunny spells for most areas but scattered showers will develop across the northern half of the country. The showers will spread southwards in the afternoon but they will not be as heavy as today. Highest temperatures will range from 13°C to 15°C in the north. Further south, temperatures will range from 15°C to 17°C and winds will continue to be light to moderate northerly or northwesterly.

High pressure will bring a settled spell with northerly winds and variable cloud but it will be cooler than of late. On Tuesday night clear spells will develop and there will be isolated showers along northern coasts. There will be lows of 6°C to 10°C, coolest under clear skies in the south.

For the rest of the week, the weather will be similar. Wednesday, Thursday and Friday will be rather cloudy but there will be some sunny spells too, especially in the south. It will be dry except the odd shower on north-facing coasts as winds will be light or moderate northerly. Afternoon temperatures will be in the low to mid-teens.

At this stage it looks like the weekend too will stay mostly dry with northerly winds persisting.
